Dear family of Joan,
My sympathy for the loss of Joan.
She inspired me in doing research in dysphagia, and gave no-nonsense, but always friendly and stimulating feedback.
Always serious, never without a sense of humor. She will be missed.

Dear family and friends, I am extremely sad to have heard about Joan's passing. My thoughts and condolances are with Ron, her family and dear friends and colleagues. Joan has been such a caring, loving, experienced, inspiring mentor and friend for so many years. I feel honoured to have known her and to have shared so many nice and remarkable moments here in the Netherlands. Let us keep her legacy alive by working together, spreading the DDS and keeping her pragmatic, expert, human approach as an example to us all. She will be missed.

We are very sad that our much appreciated trainer and friend Dr. Sheppard, our Joan, has passed.
She was a worldwide authority in the area of dysphagia. For many years we have worked together with her with a lot of joy and pride. We will miss her very much. Joan was a strong, energetic, committed, warm and caring person who meant a lot to everyone around her. We wish her husband Ron and their children, grandchildren, family and friends a lot of strength in these difficult times.
